And-Co Artist in Residence
-
Artist Fee.
Like our exhibition program, our artist-in-residence receives a fee of $800 for sharing their work with us. This fee is split into two payments over 12 months.
Artists receive 100% of any sales made at And-Co. You are welcome to bring visitors and clients into the space Monday-Friday, 9-5, to see your work. Works on exhibition must remain up for the agreed period.

Work.
This residency provides one-on-one discussions and space to show your work to the public. We don’t have studio spaces available.
Our Exhibition Program is for showing existing work that is currently sitting in an artist’s studio or storage.
Our Residency Program is for artists just starting their practice or making a significant shift in their practice, who don’t have a large body of work but want discussion and the opportunity to share work as it develops throughout the year.
-
One Year.
The residency lasts 12 months, from January to December. During that year, you have access to:
* Bi-monthly studio visits with our in-house curator
* Bi-monthly discussions with other artists in residence and curators
* Our content creation studio to produce audio or video
Requirement: Our in-house curator and the artist-in-residence will produce at least five pieces of audio/video content for And-Co’s social media, sharing learnings along the way. The artist is not required to edit this content and will have approval on the final cut before it goes live.
Germain Ekra
“Thank you for making it all happen, the public talk was beautiful and so good with the people that were there and all the great people I met over the residency. I can never repay what you’ve done for me in the art space and all the help you continue to offer me. Thank you.”
And-Co values the quality of a conversation over the quantity of conversations. Our events are intimate, and our programs involve personalized care from And-Co team members. We do what we can to help, and believe in the importance of creative and cultural work to the well-being of all communities.
2024 was the first year of our artist-in-residence program, aimed at ensuring our exhibition program made space for artists seeking support in other ways. Germain Ekra is a Vancouver-based artist from the Ivory Coast, living and working on the unceded and ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Without any formal training, Ekra continues to grow his painting and drawing practice, producing works that tell his story and share his perspective.

And-Co’s Art Curator
Ashlee Conery, “Ash” (she/her) (BA, MFA Curating), is many things: a sailor, a salad enthusiast and And-Co’s Art Curator.
At the heart of our commitment to embracing new and diverse perspectives lies our art program, masterminded by Ash. Through a dynamic array of exhibitions, she ensures our space remains a vibrant hub for local arts and culture, that we provide tangible support for these communities and meaningful touch points for our members.
Our exhibitions feature a diverse spectrum of makers, from Indigenous-led research projects, pioneering new media artists, internationally acclaimed painters, sculptors, and photographers, and emerging talents showing their work for the very first time. Ash also works with many of our Solidarity Partners to ensure we support artists working on the DTS, working with mental and physical illness or who lack access to exhibition opportunities.
With over 18 years of curatorial experience spanning six countries, Ash brings a unique blend of expertise to And-Co. Not only is she a seasoned curator, but also a skilled Full-Stack Web Developer, bridging the realms of art and technology within our community.
